Our Story: From Humble Beginnings to Excellence and Hope

The journey of SUPERB INTERNATIONAL MODEL SECONDARY SCHOOL began with a profound personal awakening. In Wukari, Taraba State, our founder, Rev. Igbagri Joseph I., reflected deeply on his life. Despite personal and family blessings, he felt unfulfilled—his impact had not extended to the wider community. Comparing himself to great inventors who had blessed humanity with machines, electricity, engines, and tools, he realized true purpose lay in serving the public good.

This realization led to earnest prayer in February 2002: “Lord, make me useful in one way or another.” In August that same year, God answered clearly—calling him to establish a school. Hesitation came naturally; resources were scarce. Yet, trusting in God’s ability to turn impossibilities into realities, he stepped out in faith.

With just N1,000 as initial capital, one long bench, and a plank to make a second chair, the vision took shape. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the founder named the first institution Joe and Christ Nursery and Primary School. On September 2, 2004, he secured a two-room building (paying N200 per room for two months’ rent) after a tenant vacated. He enrolled his three children—Christiana, Emmanuel, and Gabriel—as the inaugural pupils. Starting with no formal plan or experience, he relied entirely on divine guidance. God Himself attracted families, and the school grew steadily into a respected institution.

From September 4, 2004, to September 5, 2006, our founder served as pioneer Head Teacher. In 2006, guided once more by the Spirit, he launched the secondary section—SUPERB INTERNATIONAL MODEL SECONDARY SCHOOL—to extend the mission of holistic education. He handed over primary leadership to Miss Apolonia Nwoye on September 6, 2006, allowing focus on the new arm (and soon after, his calling to priesthood). Had priesthood come first, the school vision might never have materialized.

The secondary school opened on September 6, 2006, in a temporary three-room site (painted by hand), starting with nine students—including two of the founder’s children. By the end of the first term, enrollment rose to thirteen, then grew geometrically for five years before steady arithmetic increases. Today, SUPERB stands as a thriving beacon: over 2 acres of land, numerous classrooms, campuses in other states, more than 1,000 students across primary and secondary sections, and over 2,000 graduates.

Academic Excellence and Lasting Impact

From the start, SUPERB has pursued Excellence and Hope—our motto—in academics, character, and service. Early milestones include:

• 1st place in the 2008 Children’s Day March Past at Central Primary School, Wukari.
• 1st in Taraba State Quiz Competition (Wukari LGA, 2008).
• Dominating the inaugural ANCOPS Writing Competition (1st and 2nd places by our students).
• Winning trophies across inter-school events, including all private schools in Wukari LGA (2018) and ANCOPS phases (2014).

Our students consistently excel in external exams (BECE, WAEC, NECO), earning scholarships to study abroad (Russia, India, and more). Graduates thrive in universities nationwide—many with First Class and Second Class Upper degrees—becoming responsible leaders.

What began as a small, faith-driven endeavor is now a leading choice for discerning parents.
